- Discrete. This is a production line that caters to a diverse set of products. There is typically setup and teardown time between producing different products, and all of this must be carefully planned and accounted for.
- Job shop. Job shops use is a special type of manufacturing process. Job shops typically produce small batches of specialized items, and instead of using production lines may instead use production areas. Because the operations of a job shop change and adapt with great frequency, job shops stand to benefit enormously from using technology that allows them to plan ahead logically.
