Three Distinct Types Of Manufacturing ProcessesHere at SMe Software, we dedicate ourselves to serving the needs of small and medium-sized manufacturing companies. Within that seemingly narrow definition, there is actually a great deal of diversity. That diversity certainly applies to the industries that we work with: SMe produces software for companies in fields such as aerospace, automotive, electronics, medical equipment, and more. Another (sometimes more productive way) of breaking down the differences between the clients we serve is by manufacturing process. Here are the three most common types of manufacturing processes served by SMe Software:

  • Repetitive. This is perhaps the most common “stereotype” of what manufacturing looks like. In repetitive manufacturing, a specially dedicated production line churns out the same product or group of products according to demand. Very few changes are made in setup–and even if demand increases beyond capabilities, a second, identical production line is usually formed.
  • Discrete. This is a production line that caters to a diverse set of products. There is typically setup and teardown time between producing different products, and all of this must be carefully planned and accounted for.
  • Job shop. Job shops use is a special type of manufacturing process. Job shops typically produce small batches of specialized items, and instead of using production lines may instead use production areas. Because the operations of a job shop change and adapt with great frequency, job shops stand to benefit enormously from using technology that allows them to plan ahead logically. With the use of a system such as SMARTer Manager, job shops are able to keep close, accurate tabs on their materials needs, their labor expenditures, and other factors that play a big role in determining profitability.

No matter what type of production process your company may use, it’s important to be SMART when it comes to administration and management! That’s where SMe Software can help! Contact SMe Software today to learn more about how our software can benefit your business!
