And every resource has its own calendar, so you can schedule maintenance, make short-term capacity changes, such as evening or weekend work, or instantly sort out any unexpected problems. For example, if a machine breaks down, or vendor doesn’t deliver on-time, a single change produces an adjustment on jobs scheduled for that machine or vendor. And with SMARTer Manager, you won’t have to reschedule the whole shop for that one change.
The Process Plan includes some unique capabilities. SMARTer Manager supports multiple resources per operation—because that’s the only way to create schedules where a machine, tooling or molds, and a specific class of operator all have to be combined to complete the operation. As a true finite scheduler SMARTer Manager keeps you on track—if you’re trying to schedule something that needs Machine X, for example, but Machine X is not available, the system won’t allow you to schedule it. But the Resource Substitution feature will perform automatic load leveling evenly across equipment with similar capabilities. With Operation grouping, you can indicate operations that have to be scheduled consecutively. For example, you’d group your setup, first article inspection and run operations. And it allows you to schedule a break between production processes, if you need to allow paint to dry, for example. With SMARTer Manager’s unique queues, you can begin a second operation while the previous one is finishing.
